Moscow is the capital of Russia and the chance to visit Moscow highlights and main museums should not be missed. Here you can become acquainted with the Russian icons and various Russian art movements. A day trip from St Petersburg to Moscow is great opportunity to compare two Russia’s most important cities. In spirit St. Petersburg is more European and Moscow is more old Russian. The combination of St. Petersburg and Moscow highlights in your 3-day stopover will show you different facets of our country.
Day Trip to Moscow Highlights
If Moscow is the heart of Russia, then the Kremlin, without doubt, is the heart of Moscow. The most important sights in the Kremlin for both Russian and foreign visitors are the Cathedral of Assumption (where the Tsars were crowned), the Armoury and the Diamond Fund collection.
Renowned Red Square adjoins the Kremlin. The most striking sight in the square is St. Basil’s Cathedral. Take half an hour for an inside visit – inside Moscow churches are very different from St. Petersburg ones. Another famous sight in Red Square is the Lenin Mausoleum (not long ago in Soviet days it was a place of mass pilgrimage).
The favourite park in Moscow for foreigners is Gorky Park. Locals, however, recommend Sokolniki Park or the Alexander Gardens, running along the Kremlin walls on the northwest side.
A few blocks southwest from the Kremlin, along the Moskva River you will come to Moscow’s main Orthodox church – Christ the Saviour Cathedral. The bridge leading from the Kremlin to the cathedral is nicknames “the bridge of kisses” as brides and grooms often come here to kiss and put a traditional lock on the railing.
Our city sightseeing tour will take you to various parts of the capital, you will see the old downtown streets and squares (Tverskaya street, Lubyanka, Theatre Square) as well as modern business area Moscow-city. From Sparrow Hills on the outskirts of Moscow there’s an unforgettable panoramic view of the city. Moscow’s famous subway is a sight in its own right, our Moscow Highlights tour includes a part on the Metro(so popular with the visitors).
The tour is not available on Thursdays (Kremlin museums’ day-off). If your day trip to Moscow falls on Thursday we’ll adjust the tour itinerary offering different activities and museums for you to consider.
