Peterhof Museum Complex

This marvelous seaside residence, built by Peter the Great, infatuates you from the very first sight. Dazzling gold and glittering fountain streams springing up to the sky – this is the fairy tale becoming real. Carefully manicured gardens are full of hidden treats like music bands and practical jokes.  Peterhof has got more than 20 museums to offer, ranging from the former official main summer Imperial  Grand Palace and ending with one of the first Russian telegraph stations. Peterhof visit  is surely an experience which would delight the whole family.
Of course, many people consider the Grand Palace to be the must-see in Peterhof. However, this museum complex boasts of interesting off-the-beaten-track palaces and pavilions that you can’t but enjoy.

Among them are:

  • Monplaisir («My Pleasure» palace of Peter the Great, the private residence of the most modest tsar in the history of Russia)
  • Royal Baths and Kitchens (not many world museums show this side of life of a royal family)
  • Special Treasury (yes, Peterhof museum complex has its own Special Treasury)
  • Grottos of the Grand Cacade (you’ll actually go behind the main cascade of Peterhof to see how the fountain system operates)
